The number one goal of a Lifeguard is to ensure the safety and health of all of the patrons entering the pool, pool area or sundeck. The Lifeguard shall be expected to possess knowledge of the Recreation policies and procedures. The Lifeguard must have the ability to enforce policies and handle conflict situations tactfully, as well as, be responsible for the completion of proper reports and to provide a safe, clean, and risk free facility.
1.Be familiar with the Campus Recreation programs, facilities, policies, procedures, and duties of all other student staff personnel.
2.Assist in keeping the Aquatic Center clean by picking up any trash or debris that may be lying around and cleaning any spills immediately after they occur.
3.Complete Evaluations and all other forms as required.
4.Assist with walk-in traffic and give facility tours.
5.Supervise patrons engaged in informal recreational play.
6.Report incidents and injuries according to established policies.
7.Meet with the Recreational Coordinator on a monthly basis and participate in program development.
8.Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
9.Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
10.Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
11.Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
12.Follow established emergency action plans.
13.Responsible for taking appropriate actions when dealing with patrons whom are causing disturbances or persist in violating expressed policies and procedures.
14.Other duties as assigned by supervisor or staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Must be enrolled in at least six (6) academic credit hours.
•Must hold a current Lifeguard certification by a recognized source of training.
•Be punctual, dependable, and trustworthy.
•Enjoy working with the public.
•Must be available to: meet with the professional staff on a weekly basis, work some weekend or holiday hours, work college sponsored events.
•Must be CPR & First Aid Certified.
•Must be able to pass a swim test and have a good level of physical fitness.
•Attend all facility staff meetings.
