Job Description Summary   

SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Department of Mathematics at Florida Polytechnic University is embarking on a new initiative in Engineering Mathematics. The initiative will involve the recruitment of a few senior faculty (Full Professor or Associate Professor) to spearhead the initiative. The areas of expertise for which we anticipate recruiting include mathematics as applied to medicine, space, energy and sustainability. We intend this new undergraduate program to provide the nexus of university-wide activities in engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology and anticipate close collaborations with faculty members in several of our professional departments. Candidates for senior appointments will be expected to be leaders of active federally-funded research programs, and will play a lead role in subsequent hiring of faculty in all these areas. Attractive recruitment packages and support will be offered. Exceptional candidates may be considered for the Department Chair position.

The primary responsibilities of senior faculty will be to establish and direct a high quality, externally funded research program. They will be expected to publish the results of their research studies in leading scientific journals of their discipline. In addition, the candidates are expected to assist in the education mission of the department and to provide whatever academic service is requested to by the Chair of the Department and Director of the Sciences, Arts and Mathematics.   

Job Description   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

·         Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field with emphasis in the specializations listed above or related fields/areas.

·         Credentials by degree and/or experience to support delivery of core courses in the department

DESIRED / PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Teaching and/or relevant industry experience

·         Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and interdisciplinary funded applied research.

·         Experience in curriculum development

·         Experience with students’ academic mentoring

·         Experience in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan.

·         Experience in serving on various department, college or university committees.

·         Active participation in professional activities and organizations.

·         Prior professional US experience with progressive responsibility.

·         Demonstrated ability to build strong industry relations to further high impact business and industry research.

·         Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse campus community.
