The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Production Management Department of the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology.

An education with FIT's Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology (The School of B&T) prepares students for careers in the fashion industry and related creative fields. The curriculum and faculty integrate industry and academic expertise in markets serving the fashion industry, business environments ranging from local to global contexts, contemporary and future-focused industry technologies. The School of B&T educates students that become graduates with skill sets and industry knowledge that are immediately valuable to employers, empowering our alumni to forge successful, satisfying careers as rising professionals in the fashion and related creative fields.


The School of B&T is the nexus of business education for fashion and related creative industries, where businesses, governments, and nonprofit organizations seek alliances with our students, alumni, and faculty to build innovative solutions.


The Production Management Department is one of the founding departments of the college. Its growth can be attributed to faculty working across the college and ongoing external networking with industry. Relationships have been cultivated over the years that have brought various technology advancements to our campus and to our programs.


Our unique 2+2 degree pathway program has included instructors from other parts of the world-Mexico, Korea, Japan, Turkey and Italy-who have taken courses alongside our students. With international ties in Egypt, Turkey, Japan, China and Korea, we have a sizeable worldwide alumni base. The Production Management Department has continued to innovate and develop new interdisciplinary curriculum into the major so students maintain relevance in the rapidly changing landscape of technology. Most recently, was the addition of a 3D modeling course, the integration of 3D printing into BS-level coursework and the ongoing discussion of augmented reality concepts for lab-based coursework, as we continue to guide our students into internships and permanent placements



Job Description:


The College reserves the right to select one or more candidates after having been duly reviewed and presented to the President in conformance with the provisions of Article 15 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.


The ideal candidate will be expected to teach specialized manufacturing courses in production technology, industrial engineering, facilities management, computer-based costing, and technical operation research applications as they relate to manufacturing. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of PDM or PLM software and must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. In particular, Excel, Access and PowerPoint will be required to teach core computer-based technology courses including Excel for Business, Database Management and Information Systems for Business. The complex and rapidly changing global business models require knowledge in 3D Body Scanning, 3D Printing, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems which require years of hands-on experience to bring the needed expertise to the classroom.


Faculty in the department may be certified in one or more areas of study: Administration, Technical, and Computer-Related. They are required to have seven (7) years of managerial experience, managing personnel and finance/budgeting and be qualified in at least two of the three aforementioned areas to join the faculty.


Teach specialized manufacturing courses in production technology, industrial engineering, computer-based costing and technical applications as they relate to manufacturing.
Work with Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
Introduce students to 3D modeling concepts (3D body scanning) which is the precursor to 3D printing.
Introduce students to 3D printing.
Possess knowledge of research in the areas of flexible materials/applications.
Assist in curriculum development as it relates to 3D printing] and lead other academic and industry research efforts.
Teach core computer-based technology courses (i.e. Excel for Business, Database Management, and Information Systems for Business).

  • Demonstrate an awareness of and experience with discipline-specific equipment, and computer hardware and software used in industry.


Requirements:


Bachelors of Science degree is required for hiring with an earned Master's degree in an appropriate field of study required for tenure; and seven (7) years of demonstrated managerial experience, some of which involves international trade. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:


Terminal degree in an area related to production management and operations research is strongly desired. Prior college-level teaching experience is preferred.

In 1951, it became one of the first SUNY community colleges empowered to grant the Associate of Applied Science degree.
