Prepares timely and accurate federal, state and international returns,estimates, annual reports and other tax-related correspondence for Boston University and its related entities, including but not limited to Forms 990 and 990-T, Special Tax Stamps, annual Alcohol Excise,quarterly GST, monthly Sales and Meals tax, F-BAR forms, and Country by Country reporting (new in 2018); Provides guidance to departments in matters involving the administration of tax requirements, particularly with respect to Unrelated Business Income (UBI) and Sales tax; Develops and maintains working relationships with key departments at the University with significant tax reporting obligations; including participation on a team of professionals from Human Resources, Global Operations, Payroll and Accounts Payable on hiring and benefits for international employees and consultants; Collaborates with the University’s investment office to develop and maintain due diligence processes for partnership K-1s, to ensure completeness of receipt of K-1s, and to identify reportable unrelated business income, for federal and state tax reporting; Keeps current with new developments in tax compliance, to inform tax planning and ensure continued compliance; Consults with and advises management on tax implications of changes in tax regulations, as well as potential tax implications of new University programs or initiatives; Communicates with and maintains relationships with outside tax professionals in the review of University filings, and tax planning consultations; Is the resident expert on the tax preparation tools used by the University; keeps current with changes in tax software, making recommendations on upgrades or changes in tools as appropriate. The position reports to the Associate Comptroller for Strategic Initiatives, and is supported by a full time tax intern.


B.A., B.S. or equivalent required; CPA or Masters degree in taxation preferred. Three to five years of experience, preferably in public accounting.
