Reporting directly to the Dean of Counseling and Enrollment Services, the Senior Program Coordinator for Career and Employment Services is responsible for coordinating career services for students. This position works directly with the Transfer Services Coordinator to coordinate the operations of the Career and Transfer Center. This position also coordinates the job board, career fair, and other events for DVC students. Additionally, this position organizes and presents at workshops and class visits and will collaborate with discipline faculty, career education staff, and others across the campus.

NOTE: New employees will be placed at the first step which is $ 4,709 per month. Based on current salary placement guidelines, all step increases for which an employee becomes eligible shall take place on July 1st of each fiscal year. These increases will occur, on an annual basis, until the maximum step of $ 5,737 per month is reached on the salary schedule.

To plan, coordinate, develop, implement and facilitate student support or instructional services for large – scale and complex program(s) in order to attract, retain and support a diverse population of students; and to provide technical program administration for all related activities.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this classification are responsible for the planning, organization and preparation of large, complex student support or instructional programs. Senior Program Coordinators are more involved in program planning and coordination involving two or more major programs.

Examples of Duties/Essential Functions

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides overall direction and guidance to the day-to-day operations, problem solving and decision making regarding a large and complex assigned program; implements program policies and directives according to District, federal or State guidelines.
Performs program development and administration for large and/or multiple programs.
Assists in the development, preparation and/or administration of department and program budgets.
Maintains and compiles data for statistical reports, student data reports, student records and files, or material requested by the District and State Chancellor’s Office.
Prepares periodic reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies.
Coordinates with other departments and/or external vendors to arrange for support equipment, materials, services or resources for students and orients students in processes or use.
Develops, schedules and leads training programs for faculty, staff and managers to promote access to and increased awareness of available student support services and programs.
Develops and implements support programs; conducts research appropriate to the operation and effectiveness of the program.
Reviews applications or other program documents to determine acceptance or make decisions pertaining to program; advises students on issues associated with assigned program; identifies problems and provides advice.
Designs and develops presentations, written information and other resource materials concerning available college and community services and programs.
Assists students with navigating college processes as appropriate for assigned program; guides students in utilizing the services of the college and outside agencies; provides referral to auxiliary resources.
Participates in special activities and events as needed.
Maintains and monitors payroll records for student assistants.
Advances program objectives consistent with college’s organizational mission and goals.
Creates program policies and processes to facilitate student success.
Meets with community members, business leaders and external agencies to solicit their participation and interest in college student service programs.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Four (4) years of experience performing responsible student services duties in a related college program.

EDUCATION/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent.

Minimum Qualification-Knowledge Of

Current policies, procedures and regulations related to assigned student services program.
Modern office procedures, practices and technology/equipment.
General college classroom procedures and requirements.
General needs of population of students supported.
Philosophy and objectives of students services programs; problems encountered by students supported.
General principles and practices of supervision.
Basic interviewing and test proctoring techniques.
Modern software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience developing and facilitating career exploration/development activities including one-time and on-going programs.
• Experience planning and organizing events such as large career and job fairs and workshops.
• Experience supporting faculty and students in programs and services.
• Experience in training and supervising student assistants and staff in the area of student services and career exploration.
• Understanding of transfer processes and career pathways to 4-year colleges and universities
• Knowledge of current labor market trends and ability to effectively incorporate this knowledge into relatable information for students.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to work one-on-one with students, represent the department at all-college and community events and meetings.
• Ability to work with faculty and staff, or other collaborative teams, to coordinate and plan the delivery of services to targeted student populations including but not limited to first generation college students, Veterans, student with disabilities, International Students, foster youth, un/under employed, etc.
• Knowledge of software relevant to career exploration and development for college students.
• Experience developing marketing materials and approaches including print, webpage, and social media.

United Faculty employees are required to join the union or pay an equivalent service fee. The monthly contribution is an agency fee of .55 % of gross pay + $2.50.
