The General Maintenance Specialist performs preventive and corrective maintenance to all buildings at the LEON campus. The position requires rough carpentry and trim carpentry skills, plumbing skills, basic electrical skills, and equipment repair abilities. The successful candidate will have basic computer knowledge, the ability to read blueprints and inventory management experience. The position will require occasional work outside of normal hours or may travel to other campuses.

The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Required Skills
  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years of Journeyman level experience in carpentry.
  • 1 year of general plumbing skills including: sweating of copper lines, threading pipe, and installing PVC pipe.
  • 5 years of general construction experience. Knowledge of proper building alteration/ repair procedures, proper maintenance of flooring materials, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens, furniture and casework, etc.
  • Ability to obtain State certification to inspect fire extinguishers.
  • Qualification or ability to obtain certification to inspect backflow prevention devices.
  • Ability to read blueprints/technical drawings and interpret specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret applicable codes regarding life safety issues.
  • Familiarity with the basics of computer aided design programs.
  • Knowledge of the care and operation of tractors and other small engine operated equipment.
  • Maintains insurability under College insurance policy.
  • Ability to safely work off ladders and platforms and ability to lift 70 lbs.
