The Classroom and Event Support Specialist provides direct support to academic programs and administrative departments to ensure the sound delivery of video and audio programming, presentations, classroom content and other digital media. This position supports physical A/V installations across campus including those found in classrooms, conference rooms, multi-purpose spaces, digital signage, and department specific installations.

The Classroom and Event Support Specialist provides direct event support by operating video cameras, audio mixers, public address sound systems, placing microphones and podiums, and ensuring presentation materials are queued and accurately displayed.

Appointed by the Director of Digital Media and Event Production as a 12-month position.

Accountabilities

Accountable for providing direct support to academic programs and administrative departments to ensure the sound delivery of video and audio programming, presentations, classroom content and other digital media. Supports physical A/V installations across campus including those found in classrooms, conference rooms, multi-purpose spaces, digital signage, and department specific installations. Accountable for providing direct event support by operating video cameras, audio mixers, public address sound systems, placing microphones and podiums, and ensuring presentation materials are queued and accurately displayed.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Respond to classroom support escalation incidents to resolve emergent issues.
- Provide support and light installation for audiovisual and multimedia installations in classrooms, conference rooms and public spaces across campus.
- Perform maintenance checks, troubleshooting, and programming of audiovisual equipment.
- Provide audio mixing and sound reinforcement for classes and events on and off campus.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; perform minor repairs or adjustments to audiovisual equipment and identify major repair needs.
- Coordinate assignments to prepare for, and support, events requiring audiovisual equipment.
- Assist with live and studio recordings, lecture capture and campus wide seminal events.
- Ensure proper documentation, notification, escalation, tracking, and follow up of audiovisual related incidents.
- Lead small projects, or support a project leader, in the installation or renovation of audiovisual systems in classrooms, meeting spaces and public areas.
- Use technical expertise and experience to exercise a sufficient level of judgment to make decisions in support of project completion.

Demonstrated knowledge of AV control platforms deployed across the campus sufficient to support tier two issues. Demonstrated knowledge sufficient to perform as tier two support for all AV issues and installations. Demonstrated advanced working knowledge of the software, hardware and systems integral to AV installations including, but not limited to, control system software, video and audio switching, display hardware, video cameras, portable lighting, and portal PA systems.

Demonstrated expert level proficiency in the technologies, equipment and methods used in support of live events including, but not limited to, selecting and temporary installing microphones and live sound mixing and amplification equipment, lightweight rigging, projection surfaces, videography, recording/playback equipment, and live streaming.

Demonstrated solid understanding of the tools and methods used in basic stage craft to construct, modify or repair AV installations in classrooms, art galleries, public spaces and athletic facilities.

Understanding of the principles of stagecraft and building trades sufficient to facilitate working with and advising tradespeople such as carpenters, electricians, audio visual contractors and technicians.

Demonstrated ability to understand a user’s typical needs and translate those to specific technical support and installation requirements.

Demonstrated ability to be an articulate collaborator who is comfortable speaking the language of the visual arts and can translate the vision of colleagues, faculty, artists and curators to assist in the design, construction and execution of AV projects, exhibits and art installations.

Requirements

Professional Experience/ Qualifications

Three or more years of professional experience in accountabilities.

Power-user level proficiency in both Windows and Mac OS.

Demonstrated advanced working knowledge of the software, hardware and systems integral to audio-visual installations including but not limited to control system software, video and audio switching and display hardware, cameras and portable lighting, sufficient to lead subcontractors, technicians, and other internal and external service providers.

Understanding of the principles of stagecraft and building trades sufficient to facilitate working with and advising tradespeople such as carpenters, electricians, audio visual contractors and technicians.

Demonstrated excellent organizational, client contact, reading, writing and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the academic, cultural and social diversity in a University setting.

Preferred Qualifications Education

An earned Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Electrical Technology or a related degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
