The University of North Georgia Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in physics to begin in August, 2019. This position will be located on the UNG Gainesville campus.

The Department of Physics is a growing multi-campus department with 15 faculty located on the Dahlonega and the Gainesville campuses. The Dahlonega physics program offers a B.S. degree in Physics and a 3+2 pre-engineering program. These programs currently produce about 15-20 B.S. graduates per academic year. The Gainesville physics program currently only offers physics courses through the sophomore level, but it is expected that the B.S. and the 3+2 pre-engineering programs will be expanded to include the Gainesville campus in the next several years. Both campuses serve a large number of 2+2 pre-engineering students, all of whom take at least one year of physics.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • The primary responsibility is teaching undergraduate physics courses, especially at the freshman and sophomore level.
  • Scholarship involving undergraduates and service on campus and in the region are also expected.
  • Candidates must show evidence demonstrating an ability to implement a research program.
  • In particular, the candidate must demonstrate clear plans for involving undergraduates in his or her own research or for generating other advanced projects for our physics majors.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:

A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required with postdoctoral and teaching experience preferred.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching and student success. Candidates must show evidence demonstrating an ability to implement a research program. In particular, the candidate must demonstrate clear plans for involving undergraduates in his or her own research or for generating other advanced projects for our physics majors.
