Job Details
Provide in-person and/or online academic tutoring to students. Maintain an effective and positive learning environment.
Department Specific Essential Job FunctionsAcademic and personal support to Upward Bound Central Prep participants at target schools. Designs and delivers meaningful and relevant academic tutoring in subject area assigned and certified. Addresses individual learning styles (increasing strengths and decreasing weaknesses).
Qualifications/Experience RequiredRequires a university degree in related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen filed that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
Qualifications/Experience PreferredEvidence of strong organizational and professional skills Computer literate. Minimum of three (3) successful years of teaching experience in secondary schools. Succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population. Evidence of school, community, and parent involvement. Evidence of a strong teaching and professional code of ethics.
Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesReports directly to the Coordinator. Maintains accurate and current student records. Adheres to all deadlines. Submits,Tutorial Report Forms, and Attendance Summaries each month. Identifies and recruits eligible students for participation in Upward Bound Central Prep. Addresses each Participant's Individual Educational Plan (IEP) and learning style. Addresses each Participant's Academic Improvement Plan (assigned area). Monitors students' progress, attendance, and behavior throughout the semester. Assists participants with preparation for End of Instruction Assessments.
Physical DemandsRepetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
