Organization

Alfred State College Offers Outstanding Opportunities

Alfred State College, a college of technology within the State University of New York (SUNY) system, offers outstanding educational opportunities with more than 70 dynamic majors and more than 56 courses available online. Students can enroll in one of 17 bachelor degree programs, or they can choose an associate degree program from 52 other options. But one trait that sets Alfred State apart from other colleges is its learning-by-doing philosophy and hands-on education.suny_college_of_technology_at_alfred1.jpg

Classes are taught from the perspective of what employers expect on the job. Many of ASC’s faculty members have real world experience, having worked in their specific industries. An ASC education isn’t only about theory; it’s about what has worked in your chosen field and what will work for you. Of course, the College’s technology-rich programs teach students the critical thinking that will help them succeed in life and in their careers. Our faculty’s unique approach has set it apart, resulting in 43 SUNY Chancellor Award winners and 9 SUNY Distinguished Professors.

Another trait that sets Alfred State College apart from other colleges is its strong sense of community. Typically, within a few days of their arrival, ASC students feel right at home.

Living style choices include row house, block house, corridor-style, suite-style, and a new townhouse-style residential complex, complete with individual living and dining areas and fully functional kitchens.

Joining other students outside the classroom is a great way for students to fit in and to apply what they’re learning to the real world. Participating in student clubs and organizations enhances the leadership and teamwork skills students learn in the classroom. It’s also a great way to meet friends and form lasting friendships. Students can choose from more than 50 clubs and organizations.

Whether students want to participate in intercollegiate sports, intramurals, or simply stay in shape, ASC offers dozens of alternatives. The College boasts 18 intercollegiate teams and a variety of intramural sports. A state-of-the-art fitness center is located in the Orvis Activities Center. Additionally, few colleges its size can boast the number of NJCAA All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference athletes that SUNY Alfred has. Each year, a number of Alfred State Pioneers earn scholarships to continue their playing careers at other prestigious colleges as well as NFL teams and the minor leagues.
