Job FieldThe Institute of Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering in the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream appointment in the area of Immunobioengineering, Regenerative Medicine, or Computational Bioengineering. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The expected start date is July 1, 2019.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate outstanding research in immunobioengineering and/or immunology, stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and/or cell and organ transplantation. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in the area of biomedical engineering, immunology or another relevant field, clearly demonstrate an exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching, and experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in any of the subjects noted above. The ideal candidate will have an established reputation in research with internationally recognized scholarship in a relevant field. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing strengths.
Excellence in research will be demonstrated by a record of sustained, high-impact contributions; publications in top ranked, internationally recognized, and field relevant academic journals; presentations at significant conferences; distinguished awards and accolades; output of research that is at high international levels; other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline; and strong endorsements by referees of the highest international stature. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain and lead an innovative, independent, and externally funded research program of the highest international calibre. Novel approaches to engineer immune responses for regenerative medicine applications are of particular interest. Evidence for excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments and accolades, strong letters of reference, a reflective teaching statement, and the teaching dossier (including strong teaching evaluations and sample syllabi) submitted as part of the application. Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is strongly desirable.
Candidates will be closely associated with the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) Medicine by Design Program, and may be considered for cross-appointment in appropriate partner departments at UofT, which may include Immunology, Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, Cell and Systems Biology, and others within the Faculties of Applied Science and Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Science, and the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network.

Medicine by Design is made possible thanks in part to a $114-million grant from the CFREF. Engineering the immune system to enable cell, tissue and organ transplantation, to enhance regeneration and repair, and/or novel ways of generating and manipulating stem cell derived immune cells, are amongst the priority areas of Medicine by Design.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
