Job FieldThe John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, at the University of Toronto, invites applications for two full-time teaching-stream appointments in architectural design. The appointments will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and will be effective July 1, 2019.

We are looking for candidates with a strong commitment to teaching architecture as a design-driven art, with the demonstrated capacity to advance architecture in ways that contribute meaningfully to the diverse intellectual milieu at the Daniels Faculty. We are interested in individuals who demonstrate, through their creative work and research, an understanding of the multiple scales at which architecture, cities, landscape, and infrastructure intersect, and the complex factors that shape these interactions in contemporary architectural practice. The position will include opportunities for the candidates to collaborate with UofT colleagues in Planning/Geography, Art, Environment, Computer Science, Engineering, and Public Health, among others, and with external academic and industry partners.

Candidates must have a professional master’s degree in architecture and at least five years of teaching experience at the university level. Applicants should be engaged in speculative and creative forms of architectural design. Candidates must demonstrate teaching ability in the design studio environment, and within the classroom setting on allied topics in both seminar and large-scale lecture formats. If selected, they will participate in shaping pedagogy for students in our undergraduate Architectural Studies Program, the Professional Master of Architecture Program, and, if appropriate, for students in our professional programs in landscape architecture; post-professional and PhD programs, and undergraduate visual studies programs.

Candidates must have a record of excellence in design and in teaching design, recognized through such areas as exhibition, publication, presentation in colloquia and symposia, competition and design awards. Teaching excellence should be demonstrated by the teaching dossier, evidence of teaching accomplishments, teaching evaluations, and the design portfolio, submitted as part of the application, as well as strong endorsements by referees of high standing.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
