About the College:

The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is the largest and most academically diverse unit on campus with 3 schools, 16 departments, and 43 academic programs and research centers. The college provides the core curriculum for all University of Arkansas students and is named for J. William Fulbright, former university president, and longtime U.S. senator. The mission of the College comes from the writings of Senator Fulbright: “…the highest function of higher education is the teaching of things in perspective, toward the purposes of enriching the life of the individual, cultivating the free and inquiring mind, and advancing the effort to bring reason, justice, and humanity into the relations of men and nations.”

About the Department:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers degrees with focuses on applied math, pure math and statistics. Courses prepare students for careers in secondary education, actuarial science and industry and graduate school. Students will receive a broad, interdisciplinary education, highlighting the utility and value of mathematics in many careers and disciplines.

The University of Arkansas Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2019. The position is open to candidates with research interests in Statistics, Data Science, or Computational Methods in the context of data science. Preference will be given to candidates in areas that match those represented in the department (e.g., Bayesian statistics, spatial processes, state space models, nonparametric methods). Candidates capable to collaborate with the growing Applied Mathematics group will be considered with particular interest.

The University of Arkansas has recently started an interdisciplinary MS program in Statistics and Analytics and has launched an Institute for Advanced Data Analytics. The University is currently developing a BS in Data Science. Faculty hires intended to support the new program as well as research in the broad area of data science are underway across the University.
