About the College/Department

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, seek an energetic individual to provide creative and exemplary leadership for the research, teaching and Extension programs for one of the top 5 Food Science Departments in the nation. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interface with leaders in one of the nation’s most diverse food and business environments where new business and entrepreneurial initiatives are strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will lead proactive efforts to strengthen ongoing, multidisciplinary research programs in basic and applied food chemistry, food microbiology, food processing, food engineering, sensory science and human nutrition. The successful candidate will also provide leadership for the interdisciplinary Institute of Food Science and Engineering and its 3 Centers (IFSE.uark.edu). The Department houses an IFT-approved undergraduate program with three concentrations as well as MS and PhD graduate programs. This is a full-time twelve-month, tenured appointment. Campus, Office Location Department of Food Science Summary of Job Duties

The Department Head will provide will provide exemplary leadership in planning, implementing and integrating multidisciplinary, applied/basic research, Extension, and teaching programs in Food Science. Duties will include: administrative and fiscal leadership for departmental personnel, programs and physical resources; program planning, faculty development, and pursuit of extramural funding including through development activities; coordination with other university programs, professional and governmental agencies, and industry groups; and maintaining an awareness of agriculture and the food industry in Arkansas and evolving research priorities in Food Science. The Head of the Department will also provide administrative leadership for all aspects of departmental teaching programs, including IFT approval, student recruitment, instruction, retention and liaison with students present and past. The successful candidate will also effectively execute a vision for raising the visibility and reputation of this Department and its faculty nationwide. The Department Head will also serve as part of the broader administrative team of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture and the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food & Life Sciences.

Prominent scientists with an earned Ph.D. in Food Science or closely related field, and an outstanding record of personal and professional accomplishments are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate’s record must demonstrate their leadership skills and abilities necessary to administer a dynamic program encompassing: research that advances the science of food and addresses industry needs in Arkansas and Nationally; teaching which builds excellence in our residential and on-line instruction; and Extension and outreach which builds collaboration and effective communication with our diverse clientele and stakeholders. This is a tenured position with a twelve-month appointment. Candidates will be expected to have an internationally recognized research and funding record consistent with an appointment at the rank of full Professor.
