Position Summary

 

At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist IV is a valuable member of our team, who will demonstrate a high degree of technical competence and knowledge in current methods and techniques. 

Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Primary plating ofclinical and/or environmental specimens onto the appropriate culture mediautilizing standard plating methods. 
  • Perform quality controlon all media and reagents used in the laboratory and keep accurate records ofthe results of such testing. 
  • Demonstrate a highdegree of technical competence and knowledge in current methods and techniquesrequired to identify to the species level a broad spectrum of bacteria. 
  • Be able to efficientlyuse the hospital computer system with regard to the input of microbiologyreports and to extract information which is pertinent to the cultures involved.
  • Is responsible for theidentification of routine isolates utilizing the protocol planned by theAssociate Chief of Microbiology and coordinates these efforts with thesupervising technologist.


Qualifications:


Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): NYS License as a ClinicalLaboratory Technologist or documented eligibility and 0-2years of demonstrated relevant laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree inMedical Technology, Microbiology, or a Life Science. Microbiology or generalistregistry (or Registry Eligible) from a nationally recognizedorganization.  Recent Clinical Bacteriology and recent LIS experience.

Special Note:  Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.

All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.  This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.

The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation. Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services (The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination), submit (3) written references, and provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
