Position Qualifications - Responsibilities:

The successful candidate for the Dean of The College of the Arts (COTA) will be an accomplished, creative and visionary leader, bringing a combination of professional capabilities and personal qualities that will enable him or her to address the opportunities and the challenges that exist for the College and the University. In addition to such required personal characteristics as honesty, integrity, high moral and ethical character, the energy and stamina for the rigors of the office, KSU considers important the following:
•A strong academic leader and experienced administrator who can thrive in a highly diverse and dynamic college
•An accomplished communicator who can use his/her strong interpersonal skills to facilitate and focus the creative energies of a renowned faculty into a vibrant and interactive academic and performance community
•An experienced and capable fiscal manager who can acquire internal and external financial support for the College
•An artist/scholar with a recognized record in research and/or creative activity
•An effective partner with the KSU administration in advancing college initiatives and priorities
•A passionate advocate for faculty, students, and programs in COTA

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

Kennesaw State University is seeking candidates who demonstrate evidence of the following professional accomplishments:
•An earned terminal degree from an accredited college or university in a discipline taught in the College
•A successful record of administrative experience, including direct supervisory roles as a department chair, associate dean, or dean
• Demonstrated skill in budgetary and financial management
•A distinguished record in supporting, developing, and promoting academic programs, including participation in regional and specialized accreditation experiences
•A demonstrated history of promoting diversity among faculty, staff, and students
•A record of teaching, scholarship, service, and professional experience that merits appointment at the rank of professor with tenure
•A notable record of excellence in communication and human relations

Founded in 1963, Kennesaw State University (KSU) is the third-largest in the University System of Georgia with more than 22,500 undergraduate and graduate students representing 142 countries.

Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), KSU offers 70 bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree programs including undergraduate degrees in education, health, business, the humanities, the arts, science and math and graduate degree programs in nursing, business, information systems, conflict management, public administration, education and professional writing. The university’s expanding doctoral programs currently offer a Doctorate of Education in Leadership for Learning, Doctorate of Business Administration and Doctorate of Nursing.

The university has committed itself to expanding the global experience of students, faculty and staff through its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), known as the "Global Learning for Engaged Citizenship" initiative, which began in 2007. In 2009, the Kennesaw State Owls completed a reclassification from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I, competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference. During the transition from 2005-2009, KSU teams have won six Atlantic Sun Conference tournaments in five sports, including men’s indoor and outdoor track, women’s soccer, softball and cross-country.

Kennesaw State was originally established by the University System of Georgia as Kennesaw Junior College serving 1,000 students. The college became a four-year institution in 1976 and was named Kennesaw College in 1977. In 1988, on its 25th anniversary, it was named Kennesaw State College and in 1996 became Kennesaw State University.
