The Department of Theatre Arts at Ithaca College (located in Ithaca, NY) seeks candidates for a tenure-eligible position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Performance: Acting & Directing with a Musical Theatre focus. The BFA in Acting and Musical Theatre degrees offer the rigorous, highly-individualized training of a conservatory within the enriching foundation of a liberal arts education, designed to develop and strengthen the skills, hone the instincts, and foster the passion necessary for a professional career as a theatre artist. Ithaca College develops theatre artists who not only practice theatre but also use theatre to reflect and shape the society in which we live. Course load for this position may include: Fundamentals of Musical Theatre Song Performance, Musical Theatre Workshop: Rep & Style, Musical Theatre Workshop: Audition & Advanced Techniques, Directing I-II, Introduction to Musical Theatre Performance, and other related courses in performance. Opportunities exist for the candidate to contribute to the mainstage or studio production season directing musicals or operas, in which they collaborate effectively with directors, colleagues, faculty and student designers, technicians, and performers, demonstrate an ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures, and have strong organizational and time management skills. Ongoing scholarly/creative/professional activity will be expected and supported. Faculty participate in the life of the department by auditioning prospective students, advising majors, assisting with Showcase material preparation for seniors, and serving on appropriate committees in the practice of shared governance.

Position/Job Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess: a foundation of training and professional experience as a performer (actor and/or dancer); a track record as a dynamic, inspiring teacher of acting; leadership skills to help shape the future of the BFA musical theatre program; experience as a professional director and/or performer with significant professional musical theatre experience; and a strong interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Candidates will possess a terminal degree (MFA) in an appropriate discipline (completion expected by the end of the third academic year of employment will be considered). Fields of expertise should include directing and musical theatre.

The ideal candidate will have significant professional experience as a performer in, or director of, musical theatre; experience as a teacher at the college or conservatory level; musicianship, dance, and/or choreography skills; and comprehensive knowledge of the musical theatre repertoire.
