Description:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University invites applicants for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant and Associate Professor ranks, to begin August 2019. Appointments at the Professor rank may also be considered for candidates with experience and qualifications appropriate at the level of Full Professor. While candidates in all areas related to Mechanical Engineering will be considered the preference will be given to: (1) Computational biofluid dynamics and/or multiscale (nano to micro) computational fluid dynamics, (2) Computational solid mechanics at multiple length and time scales with emphasis on advanced manufacturing processes of materials, (3) sustainability in design and/or manufacturing processes, and (4) dynamics and control with emphasis on cyber-physical systems, robotics and autonomous systems. The Department and College are committed to fostering interdisciplinary research that can address grand challenges facing our society and innovate through a balance of fundamental and translational research. Collaboration with entities outside engineering and science is also highly encouraged.

The Department currently has 29 tenure-track or tenured faculty members actively involved in research, teaching, and service endeavors. One third of the current faculty members have received the NSF CAREER grant. The Department is housed in a modern research and education facility and has an enrollment of approximately 1030 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Clemson University is a public, land-grant institution currently ranked as 24th among national public universities by U.S. News and World Report and is classified as a Tier 1 Research Institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The campus is located between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC in the upstate of South Carolina.


Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with potential to develop an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research program and to actively contribute to core graduate and undergraduate teaching missions of the Department.
