This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Information Technology, the incumbent will work with end users in developing software applications for the Student Information Management System (SIMS) in support of Enrollment Services functions and operations.

The incumbent will participate in, and if required lead the design, planning, and implementation of complex projects. He/she will provide consultation and facilitate the analysis and definition of business rules, service levels, and user requirements, and work cross-functionally to solve problems, improve process, and implement changes.

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $6,250 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,478 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Four years (more are preferable) of complex system analysis and hands-on project management experience, preferably in highly regulated environment (education, healthcare, military, etc.) is required for this position.
  • Project management experience in software development and system integration.
  • Experience in the business analysis of application development and project management in higher education or other regulated industries.
  • General knowledge of SQL, object-oriented programming concepts, and relational database design.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems.
  • Working knowledge of the SIMS Student Information Management System used at SDSU.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field.
  • Working experience with Linux/Unix operating system environments is a plus.
  • Working experience with Oracle Forms and Apex development is a plus.
  • Development experience in student information systems is desired.
  • Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum software development methodology.
