Two (2) full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) positions, with the possibility for additional vacancies. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and establish a pool of candidates for future permanent (probationary) appointments. These positions are designated non-exempt under FLSA and are eligible for overtime compensation. The work schedule will be based on operational needs. Incumbents will be required to work special events, which involve weekends, nights, extended shift periods, overtime and holidays. Typical shifts will reflect a 5/8 (five days per week, eight hours per day) or 4/10 (four days per week, 10 hours per day) schedule. The anticipated hire date is May 1, 2018.

Under the lead of the Parking Sergeant or designee, Parking Officers coordinate multiple parking related functions to ensure the day to day operations of Parking Services are successful. Incumbents will be required to patrol the campus on foot, on bike, or by vehicle to enforce campus parking rules and regulations. Incumbents shall work independently while issuing parking citations and responding to calls for service. Finally, incumbents will provide support for special events during which there will be work coordination with other personnel.

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,200 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,489 - $4,119 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires a high school diploma or its equivalent, possession of a valid California Driver’s License, and three to six months of experience in parking enforcement and regulation and/or community service and access functions related to parking.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • One year of professional experience working in parking enforcement, traffic control or law enforcement.
  • Previous experience in a large, complex organization such as a higher education, public agency, military or law enforcement setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Ability to problem solve and act independently to accomplish team objectives in a fast paced environment.
