The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders, who innovate, adapt and discover in an ever changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Fiscal Specialist 2 who will join the ESFCOM Business Service team in leading the college into the future.

The Fiscal Specialist 2 on the ESFCOM Business Services team is responsible for performing all aspects of a variety of complex and varied financial, travel and personnel support functions including developing, coordination and review of travel and payroll actions within the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, such as new hire process management, payroll reconciliation, corrections and certification for the college. Development of processes and procedures regarding travel and position management for the college. This position exercises independent judgment to make decisions, and is authorized to take initiative to perform responsibilities with discretion. This position demonstrates a strict level of confidentiality in all matters. The responsibilities may include analyzing budgets, establishing and maintaining comprehensive fiscal record keeping systems and oversight. The position provides guidance, financial reporting and problem resolution to both external and internal partners.

The College
The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is Washington’s premier community-based medical school. It is named after the university’s late president, Elson S. Floyd. Dr. Floyd believed that Washington State University, as the state’s land-grant institution, should train doctors to serve all of Washington.

The mission of the School is to: Develop practical solutions to challenging problems in disease prevention, health care access and delivery; Train primary care physicians who will work in Washington and help alleviate a shortage of doctors, especially in rural and under-served areas; and Develop a strong research component, with faculty members who work on innovative projects, sharing what they know with students in classroom and research settings.

Required Qualifications

Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 AND 15 quarter hours OR 10 semester hours of college level accounting; OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements

Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word).

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Demonstrated knowledge and skill proficiency of financial, administrative systems or similar systems.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional work experience in higher education, local or state agency, or equivalent.

Knowledge of WSU AIS applications, Budget Planning System, and Business Objects.

Knowledge of WSU Business Policies and Procedures.
