The University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Creative Nonfiction Writing in the Department of Creative Writing on a continuing 9-month appointment, beginning Fall 2019. The successful candidate will join a nationally recognized department that offers both a BFA and an MFA, as well as a Certificate in Publishing from a unique teaching press. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in the development of the genre and its formal evolution through influential writers, and have a strong grounding in its various forms. Teaching duties will include all levels of writing workshops from beginning to graduate, as well as courses in forms, special topics, and the senior seminar. All curricula should emphasize diversity. The Assistant or Associate Professor will direct and read MFA and BFA theses, mentor graduate teaching assistants, serve on departmental committees, and be available for administrative duties.

Minimum Requirements

•An appropriate terminal degree (MFA, PhD, or equivalent degree).
•At the Assistant Professor level: At least one book of creative nonfiction of literary merit from a national press; At the Associate Professor level: Two or more books of creative nonfiction of literary merit from a national press and significant achievement in the field.
•Additional publications in reputable magazines or anthologies appropriate to rank.
•Demonstrated excellence in teaching creative nonfiction writing at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

Preferred Qualifications

•Publication in and the ability to teach a second genre, or some aspect of editing and publishing.
•National recognition for creative work (e.g., literary awards, critical praise, etc.).
•Interest and/or experience in teaching culturally diverse curricula.
•Interest and/or experience in contributing to the leadership of programs and department.
