The University of North Alabama’s Anderson College of Nursing (ACON) is seeking a qualified full-time tenure track faculty at the rank of assistant professor for the nursing programs. Candidates qualifying for other ranks will be considered. Salary and rank will be based on qualifications of the successful candidate.

Duties in addition to teaching 12-15 credit hours per semester include clinical supervision of students, advisement, engaging in scholarly activities and professional service, and service to the department, college and the university. Instructional areas include medical / surgical nursing, critical care and other undergraduate nursing courses. Additional responsibilities include participation in curriculum and course development, advisement and recruitment, ability to work within a culturally diverse student population, maintaining office hours in accordance with university policy, and performing other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties

Instructional areas include undergraduate nursing courses. Additional responsibilities include participation in curriculum and course development, advisement and recruitment, ability to work within a culturally diverse student population, maintaining office hours in accordance with university policy, and performing other duties as assigned. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, student advising/mentoring, curriculum development, and professional involvement.

Additional Duties Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Hearing ability (e.g., must be able to discern various health assessment sounds with a stethoscope);
• Visual ability (e.g., must be able to read small print or medication vials);
• Fine and gross motor skills (e.g., must possess physical stamina to perform full range of required client care activities for the duration of work role);
• Emotional stability (e.g., must be able to assume responsibility and accountability for own actions);
• Critical thinking (e.g., must demonstrate sound judgment regarding the provision of safe, ethical care in a variety of health care settings).

Minimum Qualifications

A doctoral degree in nursing or related field from an accredited institution and three years of classroom or clinical teaching experience in an accredited registered nursing program or higher degree nursing program are preferred. Online teaching experience and/or willingness to teach online courses is preferred. Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner experience is desired. Requirements include a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution, five years’ clinical practice, computer proficiency, and an unrestricted nursing license for the State of Alabama. Should there be no qualified doctoral candidates; qualified doctoral student candidates may be given priority.

Nursing License in AL or the ability to obtain such, required.

Organization

Established in 1830 as LaGrange College, the University of North Alabama has a rich history including the distinction of being the first state-supported teachers college in the South. The school's 130-acre campus is located in the historic district of Florence, Alabama, on the Tennessee River. Students come from around the country and world, but UNA is largely a regional university with about 70% of students coming from Alabama.
