The Department of Communications at the University of North Alabama invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Mass Communication – Journalism & Digital Media Production, beginning Fall 2019. An earned doctorate in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a closely related field is required. (ABD’s will be considered but the degree must be completed by the time of appointment).

The successful candidate should have professional experience in print, digital, audio or video journalism. Primary academic instruction will focus on teaching students the fundamentals of journalistic writing, ethics, production, and professional practices. Courses will include Media Writing, Basic Reporting, Advanced Reporting, and other communication courses as assigned. The candidate will teach a 3-3 load and will be expected to maintain an appropriate level of scholastic activity and service necessary to secure tenure and promotion with the Department of Communications.

The successful candidate also will serve as Student Media Advisor to award-winning publications The Flor-Ala and Diorama. Experience advising student publications, managing student staff, and administering budgets is a plus.

Established in 1830 as LaGrange College, the University of North Alabama has a rich history including the distinction of being the first state-supported teachers college in the South. The school's 130-acre campus is located in the historic district of Florence, Alabama, on the Tennessee River.
