The CCGA Writing Center is designed to support current CCGA students with any academic writing project. The Writing Center coach works one-on-one with students and teaches students about writing. The coach is not an editor and does not write papers for students. The coach is a model student who cares about the success of fellow students.
This is a 3-hour to 19-hour per week student assistant position on the Brunswick campus reporting to the Writing Center Director. The schedule for the person in this position will be assigned by the supervisor in conjunction with the student’s class schedule. The schedule is subject to change between semesters or as needed. Student employees are not to work during scheduled class times, even if classes are cancelled or dismissed early.
The coach is expected to:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow students, faculty, and staff.
Possess and maintain strong writing skills.
Provide one-on-one coaching sessions for CCGA students.
Create and retain records of coaching sessions.
Conduct and create in-class workshops concerning writing, such as citation formats, grammar, and revision.
Conduct and participate in coaching evaluations and ongoing training sessions, such as weekly staff meetings and individual projects.
Contribute to ongoing writing center research.
Participate in on campus staff meetings and coaching professional development workshops.
- Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at CCGA.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours.
- Possess a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
- Be reliable and on time.
- Be dependable.
- Provide two writing samples with your application (one with outside source use and one without outside source use).
- Be interested in learning about writing.
Possess experience with various types of writing assignments.
- Demonstrate excellent writing skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of citation styles.
- Demonstrate knowledge of grammar conventions.
- Possess an ability to work with a diverse student population.
- Prior experience teaching or tutoring.
