Nature of Work

The Career and Student Employment Counselor is responsible for providing career counseling, guidance, and employment opportunities to the general student population and alumni of the College of Coastal Georgia. A critical aspect of this position will be to assist students in finding, obtaining, and maintain on-campus employment opportunities. In addition, this position will assist first-year students, especially those undecided on a major, by assessing their interests, abilities, and personal values to help them make sound academic and career decisions. The Career and Student Employment Counselor also serves as the primary point of contact for employer relations and is responsible for marketing CCGA students and alumni as qualified job candidates. This position works collaboratively with the Center for Academic Advising, Academic Affairs, and assists with special projects for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management.

Essential Duties

•Provide career counseling to all students, especially underclassmen and undecided students
•Administer and interpret career assessments related to career exploration and decision-making
•Manage Focus2, an online education and career planning system for students and alumni
•Facilitates resume, cover letter and job search skill development, particularly with first and second-year students.
•Facilitate workshops, presentations, individual counseling sessions, and other relevant programs on topics related to career development
•Administers Student Employment Program
oMatches students looking for on campus employment with positions matching their skills, abilities and interests.
oAssists students with new hire paperwork
oDiscuss the hiring process and expectations with students and employers
oCoordinates with on-campus employers, advisors and faculty to enhance retention efforts
oCoordinates Student Employment Advisory Board and leads semesterly meetings of all campus employers to provide updates on Student Employment and retention.
•Assists in the maintenance of on-campus and off-campus employment opportunities through employer relations outreach efforts, job fairs, and online job postings in Coastal Careerlink.
•Assist the Director of Career Development with planning and unit goals; managing Coastal CareerLink; planning and implementing career fairs and other large events; analyzing and disseminating data from events, presentation, and counseling sessions
•Provide representation in various college committees and college-wide events to enhance awareness and visibility of the Office of Career Services.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

•Bachelor’s degree in business, psychology or related field with coursework or certification in career development and two or more years of experience in an educational environment or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Strong organizational and time management skills.
•Familiar with a variety of career development resources – both in print and online.
•Excellent computer skills including MS Office and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

•Demonstrated ability to administer and interpret career and other assessment instruments and technology.
•Knowledgeable of career development theories and assessments.
•Knowledgeable of best practices regarding resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, and job searching.
