The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas State University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track position in PK-8 mathematics education at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. We seek candidates who share our commitment to identifying, understanding and addressing educational inequities, and to the recruitment and high-quality education of students from historically underserved and systemically marginalized communities. We are especially interested in applicants whose scholarly interests and work include attention teaching and learning of mathematics with concerns of race, ethnicity, multilingualism, immigrants, social class, gender, and diversity, broadly defined. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate elementary mathematics education courses, developing and publishing research in a sustained line of inquiry, collaboratively monitoring and refining degree programs, supporting student recruitment efforts, and providing service to the program, department, university and profession. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Appointment begins Fall 2019.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:
• Earned doctorate by hire date in mathematics education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
• Record of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in scholarly activity in the field of mathematics education as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, etc.

Required qualifications for Associate Professor and Professor rank:
•Earned doctorate in mathematics education or a closely related field, from an accredited institution of higher education.
•Record of excellence in scholarly activity in the field of mathematics education as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, etc. commensurate with rank.
• Demonstration of excellence in teaching at the university level.
•To be eligible for hire at the associate professor or professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on University and department established standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to rehumanizing mathematics education, addressing educational inequities, and issues of access, multilingual learning, and culturally sustainable praxis.
• Knowledge of research of children’s mathematical thinking and its use in teacher education.
• Evidence of teacher/student/community collaboration in teaching or research endeavors.
• Potential for success in advising, recruiting, and coordinating a small cohort of practicing teachers in a graduate elementary mathematics education program.
• At least 2 years of teaching experience in PK-8 schools with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
• Demonstration of the potential for service to the department and university.
• Successful teaching experience of elementary mathematics methods courses for diverse classrooms in university settings.

Preferred qualifications for Associate Professor and Professor rank:
