The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University invites applications for a post-doctoral position in the Forensic Anthropology Center (FACTS) to begin January 1, 2019. This is a 12-month, non-tenure line position with an opportunity for a second year of funding based on performance.

The post-doctoral position is focused on dental age estimation based on tooth mineralization using transition analysis and machine learning methods. Primary responsibilities of the position include: (1) participation with the PI and Co-PI in various facets of data management, analysis, and procurement; (2) open-source application development; (3) oversight of graduate research assistants; and (4) report and publication preparation.

FACTS is a multifaceted center that encompasses a body donation program, an outdoor decomposition facility, a processing laboratory, and a fully equipped research laboratory with a large modern human skeletal collection. Required Qualifications

(1) A PhD in anthropology (or a closely related discipline) at the time of job offer.
(2) A strong research background in forensic anthropology, dental development, human growth, dental anthropology, and/or dental age estimation techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

(1) Administrative and/or laboratory management experience; (2) a record of research in dental anthropology; (3) experience mentoring graduate student research; (4) experience with open source statistical packages and web application development (i.e. R and Shiny); and (5) a commitment to advancing diversity.
