Summary Description::

Provide individual and group counseling for students with academic, career, and personal concerns.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities::

Conduct student orientation and advisement sessions and help students in developing and achieving individual educational plans. Assist students in defining personal and educational goals. Create an environment conducive to student development, self-awareness, and self-direction. Develop proficiency and maintain competency in the use of computer applications used in counseling, teaching, and articulation-related activities. Participate in general faculty functions related to the educational process and in-service programs. Work with colleagues to develop and maintain quality counseling programs for students. Assignment may include day and evening hours. Be able to perform duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications::

The successful candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Master’s degree or higher in rehabilitation counseling from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent; OR
2. Master’s degree or higher in special education from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent, AND a minimum of 24 upper division or graduate semester units in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, or social work; OR
3. Master’s degree or higher in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, career development, or social welfare from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent, AND a minimum of 12 upper division or graduate semester units in the counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, OR two (2) years accumulated full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: A) Counseling or guidance for students with disabilities, or B) Counseling and/or guidance in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities. Please note: Candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must answer all the Equivalency questions on their application in addition to all other required materials.

Conditions of Employment::

Part-time, temporary, hourly assignments are on an as needed basis.
