Job Summary:

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Resident Director. This position manages the day-to-day operations of 104-704 bed residence halls or apartments/townhouses; supervises 4-20 Community Assistants and work-study students; advises Hall Council. Develops a community that promotes learning, respect for diversity, academic and student success. Responds to emergency and safety situations; provides crisis management support and intervention; refers mental health concerns to appropriate resources and documents referrals; may be required to work nights and weekends. Facilitates leadership opportunities and supports students in leadership development; educates residents about emergency and safety procedures. Maintains occupancy/roster and key control/inventory; develops and utilizes hall opening/closing procedures; makes inspections. Completes student assessment forms for damages; maintains administrative and informational records. Provides staff guidance on University policies and procedures; works with students in developing floor/building communities conducive for high academic achievement. Serves as liaison with other departments and community agencies; works collaboratively with the offices of Student Conduct and Counseling. Submits work orders; follows up with resident(s) and Physical Plant personnel for completion/status of work orders. Monitors computer equipment; coordinates and supervises proper usage of building spaces used for programs and activities. Serves on an on-call duty rotation. May be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and previous work experience (3-5 years) in a residential life/housing facility at a college or university. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities are required; must live in the residence hall 12 months per year; Master’s degree preferred. Background and/or credit check may be required.
