The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering (MANE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY invites applications for the Chatter Career Development Chair, intended for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Energy Science and Engineering to begin August 15, 2019 or thereafter. Exceptionally qualified individuals in areas related to energy harvesting, conversion, transport and storage are encouraged to apply. Outstanding candidates in other synergistic areas will also be considered.

Candidates must possess an earned PhD or foreign degree equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, along with evidence of effective teaching, and the ability to demonstrate, through accomplishment, promise of academic, scholarly or research achievement. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the potential to carry out the following position duties: develop and maintain an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary program of funded research in Mechanical, Aerospace or Nuclear Engineering, to actively contribute to the core graduate and undergraduate teaching missions of MANE and engage in department, institute and professional service activities.

MANE is in a period of unprecedented growth. Our research addresses some of the world’s most pressing technological challenges—from energy and sustainable development to materials, manufacturing, controls, adaptive and resilient systems, biotechnology and human health. The department’s annual research expenditures total more than $15 million. More than 1,400 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students are currently enrolled in MANE.

Faculty have access to world-class research facilities and an atmosphere that promotes deep interdisciplinary collaborations. The New York State Center for Future Energy Systems conducts fundamental and applied research to accelerate the development of energy efficient and renewable energy technologies. The Center for Materials, Devices, and Integrated Systems aims to advance next-generation electronic and optical devices, manufacturing and robotics, integrated biomaterial devices, energy harvesting and storage, electric transmission/distribution, responsive and adaptive built environments, and nanostructured composite materials. The Center for Computational Innovation has one of the fastest supercomputers available at a private university. The Institute for Data Exploration and Applications and the Experimental Media and the Cognitive Immersive Systems Lab provide new and exciting opportunities to manipulate and experience data.
