Ideal Candidate Statement

• Experience working in community college, university, or WIOA-funded career centers or similar grant-funded programs;

• Develop and facilitate client-centered interactive activities for a range of audiences which can include students and community members;

Job Description Summary

Under the direction of the Director- One Stop Career Center, provide career advice and assistance to students and job seekers; provide career development training to students as assigned; design, prepare, coordinate and implement workshops for job seekers; provide Workforce Investment Act (WIA) eligibility services to students; conduct community and campus outreach regarding career counseling services; conduct internal audits of peer files.

*position is funded by categorical funds, and employment is subject to those funds being available

Essential Duties

Provide career advice and assistance to students and job seekers; manage student electronic records and case files; conduct resume reviews and mock interviews; provide guidance to students regarding career decisions; apply and utilize career theories, models and concepts; provide referrals to students regarding community and social services resources; create and implement individualized career plans; identify barriers and develop compensatory strategies.

Provide career development training to students as assigned; respond to inquiries regarding career advancement; assure development of job search, salary negotiation, labor market research, career planning, and other applicable skills; generate, maintain and update a variety of records relating to student progress, abilities and opportunities.

Design, prepare, coordinate and implement workshops for job seekers; conduct job search workshops and community presentations and informational sessions; generate, update and maintain workshop curriculum; evaluate training curriculum to assure effectiveness and diversity of training techniques and learning styles; generate specialized workshops for College vocational programs.

Provide exit support for successful student job searches; evaluate progress to determine case closure, successful employment or reception of unemployment benefits; input and resolve data codes in an assigned database; assure the accuracy and completeness of eligibilities, documentation and case notes.

Provide guidance to students and job seekers regarding vocational training; determine training eligibility and approval; provide assessments for outside agencies; maintain and submit required documents; assure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

Provide grant funded program enrollment services to students; input student and required WIA data and codes; review and maintain files, case notes, IEPs and intake documents; provide individualized career guidance to enrolled students; assure tracking of enrollment and performance measures.

Conduct community and campus outreach regarding career center services; conduct classroom presentations, informational meetings, seminars and other outreach events; develop marketing materials and presentations; respond to inquiries and provide information regarding available services; attend and assist with job fairs, professional development and community events as required; utilize social media tools to increase awareness of Career Center services.

Conduct internal audits of peer files; assure compliance of documents and records with County laws, rules and regulations; generate and submit feedback and corrections to assigned personnel in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.

Provide technical information and assistance to the Director regarding assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs.

Prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to personnel, grant requirements and assigned activities.

Communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information; read and respond to emails as appropriate.

Operate a computer and assigned software programs; operate other office equipment as assigned; drive a vehicle to conduct work as assigned.

Coordinate and implement special projects relating to department activities as assigned.

Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES:
Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in social science or related field and three years increasingly responsible experience in career counseling.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver’s license.
