Job Summary

The Instructor reports directly to the Surgical Technology Program Director. The duties of this position may include: classroom instruction, lab instruction, and/or clinical supervision. Continues professional development. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must be Nationally Certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
Must have a minimum of two years experience as a Surgical Technologist.
Adjunct faculty in the surgical technology program shall be qualified in terms of academic preparation, teaching abilities, knowledge of the surgical environment and shall meet the educational standards for faculty as required by the college.
Must understand the teaching and evaluation methodologies used in the total instructional process.
Ability to work with little or no supervision.
High degree of communication skills, written and spoken.
Ability to deal with parents, students, faculty and staff in professional manner.
Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
Ability to promote the campus image.
Ability to follow established college policies and procedures.

Occasional travel required. Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Working Conditions: Normal classroom and lab setting. Clinical experiences are typically performed in hospital or nursing homes. Some hazardous conditions exist.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicant is preferred to have an Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology.

Lamar State College - Port Arthur, a member of The Texas State University System, is an open-access, comprehensive public two-year college offering quality and affordable instruction leading to associate degrees and a variety of certificates.
