The Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor, Director of Orchestral Activities beginning August 2019. The successful candidate will conduct the Gettysburg College Symphony Orchestra and administer all its related activities, as well as teach in one or more related areas of expertise: https://www.gettysburg.edu/academics/conservatory/
The teaching load for this position will be five courses annually (3/2 load), where the administration and conducting of the orchestra counts for two of the five annual courses. Additional responsibilities include student advising; student recruitment and outreach; participation in shared governance and other forms of institutional service.Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate excellence in orchestral conducting and teaching, coupled with the skills to foster students’ artistic and technical achievement through ensemble instruction. The successful candidate will demonstrate: potential for developing and maintaining a creative and/or scholarly profile; an understanding of the ideals and goals of an undergraduate liberal arts education; and a strong vision for recruitment and outreach. Doctorate preferred; ABD or equivalent experience considered. A record of successful teaching at the collegiate level and experience working with diverse populations preferred.Special Instructions to Applicants
