The Public Safety Officer is a member of the campus police force, which serves and protects the college community. The Officer is responsible for maintaining security and safety of persons and property; identifying potential security and safety hazards; being observant and responding to potential criminal activity on campus; maintaining good public relations by assisting others as a source of information and direction; controlling and regulating traffic and parking; and investigating all criminal, safety, and traffic incidents. Officer will be required to patrol the campus on foot or in a vehicle, enforce traffic rules, and direct traffic. Officer will also assist in parking vehicles, respond to medical calls, and make arrests as required for violations of law. Officer may have additional duties as assigned. This position requires shift work which may involve working different shifts as manpower needs change, as well as overtime as required
Starting hourly rate $16.00
-Respond to routine, and emergency calls for service.
-Participate in the investigation of crimes and other offenses against persons and property.
-Has a full knowledge of departmental procedures and incident command system.
-May perform dispatcher duties such as operating telephone and radio communication equipment and related clerical tasks.
-Provide various types of public service and assistance to students, faculty, staff, guests, and visitors on the college campus.
-May assist in training other personnel in departmental policies, patrol practices, methods, and techniques of their jobs.
-Performs other related tasks and duties as required.
-Have a valid driver’s license 21 YOA
-Good moral character, good under stressful conditions, good decision making ability
-Satisfactory results from a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and credit check, others.
-Georgia POST certified officer
-Past experience as a Georgia Peace Officer
Must have an acceptable level of physical fitness to meet the physical demands of mandatory training and the performance of the job. Some of the physical demands are; running, standing for long periods, being able to lift/pull individuals, having the cardiovascular and muscular ability to physically control suspects, having the manual dexterity to control a firearm. Must pass physical exam.Special Instructions to Applicants
Applicants will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation including a credit report, psychological examination, physical examination (fitness for duty), drug screen and others.
