After School Program Site Coordinator - Substitute
Location: All Locations


$16.01 per hour19 hours per week/10 months per year

Temporary Employment Retirement: Employee Contribution to Apple 3.75%Employer Contribution to Apple 3.75%
Position Duties


Under the supervision and guidance of the Director, assists in developing, leading, and coordinating all phases of the child education components in an after school program. Works with and provides leadership to the After School Program staff in their delivery of program components.

Monitors and assists in the implementation of the program including educational services, recreational activities, and physical education. Build partnerships between regular day teachers, program staff, administrators, students, family, and community organizations/members. Assist in personnel selection and orientation as requested.

  • Adhere to and role model the principles and practices of a quality early education in "Best Practices" for After School Programs as defined by the Department of Education
  • Coordinate daily operations of the school site
  • Facilitate and implement program workshops/activities
  • Teach various program classes and/ or workshops as assigned
  • Prepare Program curriculum according to local, school district guidelines and regulations
  • Conduct interviews with students on goals, educational needs, and provide mentoring
  • Work as a team member to promote the mission of the program: enrichment and special educational opportunities for high school age children
  • Work with Program staff in problem solving the operation of the site, and delivery of educational services to students
  • Meet with students and or teachers during regular school day to assist with educational plan
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate records, reviewing time sheets, tracking staff attendance, maintaining professional growth records of all staff, and complete other reports as needed
  • Make recommendations for staff training in child discipline and positive reinforcement techniques for children
  • Perform student assessments on a routine basis
  • Interact with families appropriately to foster the development and implementation of family partnerships
  • Conduct student and parent orientations on program offerings. Promote cooperative relationships between school site staff and parents and act as mediator to help resolve conflicts
  • Assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of materials.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.

Qualification


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

The position requires working knowledge of the principles and practices child development theory of children ages 14 – 18 years and developmentally appropriate math and English curriculum for those age groups. Knowledge of Department of Education performance standards and state regulations. Awareness of community services and agencies in the assigned service area. General knowledge of all job categories under the supervision of the After School Program. Preparation of and use of individual education plans, record keeping, children learning styles, and principles of leadership and supervision. Requires knowledge of high school functions, policies, rules and regulations.Requires knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Requires sufficient human relation skills to work productively and cooperatively with teachers, students, and parents in formal and informal settings.

ABILITIES:

Requires the ability to work effectively with adults and children from diverse backgrounds, cultures, languages, ethnicities, experiences, abilities and temperaments. Requires the ability to provide leadership and model professional behaviors and values. Requires the ability to facilitate problem solving processes with individuals, and small groups of students and assist with demonstrations of assigned subject matter. Requires the ability to assist in the implementation of classroom activities at an optimal level to promote a developmentally appropriate environment. Requires the ability to provide leadership to other adults and maintain confidentiality. Requires the ability to learn Datatel and the Unified School Districts' data entry components, as appropriate.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Requires the ability to perform indoors in a classroom/laboratory or recreation environment engaged in work of a non-sedentary nature. Requires near visual acuity to read and write printed materials and computer screens. Requires hearing and speech ability for ordinary and telephonic conversation, to speak to small groups, and to hear sound prompts from equipment. Requires the ability to move about classroom/laboratory, and school grounds, to tutor, assist with presentations, and reach work materials

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: AA/AS Degree in Child Development, Social Science, Psychology, Liberal Studies leading to a teaching credential, or a related field, and at least one year of professional experience in Education. The education requirement may be substituted with at least 60 units and 4 years of professional experience in an appropriate field. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

Driver's license required. May require a valid first aid card.
