Assistant Professor, Political Economy - Microeconomic Theory

Location:
New Orleans, LA
Open Date:
Oct 17, 2018
Description:

The Department of Economics and the Murphy Institute of Political Economy seek to hire an assistant professor (tenure-track) specializing in microeconomic theory with specific applications to political economy, to begin July 1, 2019.

The Murphy Institute exists to help Tulane faculty and students understand economic, moral, and political problems faced by modern society. The successful candidate will have an appointment that will be 50 percent in the Murphy Institute and 50 percent in the Department of Economics, with the tenure home in the Department of Economics.

The successful candidate will be a productive scholar and a committed teacher, and will have primary research and teaching interests in microeconomic theory as applied specifically to issues in political economy. Preference will be given to applicants who also have interests in fields where the department has existing strengths and is focusing its graduate programs (development, inequality, and poverty; the economics of education; health and labor economics; and public economics).

Candidates must have the Ph.D. degree in hand by the start of the appointment. The successful candidate must demonstrate a record of or a potential for significant scholarly productivity, a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and interest/experience in program building.

The teaching load for tenure-line faculty in the School of Liberal Arts is 2-2, and the School offers a generous sabbatical policy and support for research and professional travel. Our dynamic faculty enjoys a collegial environment, flexibility in course offerings, accomplished and engaged students, and small class sizes.

Tulane University is an equal employment opportunity/affirmative action/persons with disabilities/veterans employer committed to excellence through diversity. Tulane will not discriminate against individuals with disabilities or veterans. We invite women and minorities to apply. Tulane University is located in the historic Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans, and is at a key moment of growth and ambition. With the arrival of a new dean in the School of Liberal Arts joining new leadership in other schools at the university, with an energetic new provost and president, and with the near-completion of a major capital campaign, Tulane is poised to emerge as a leader in global, liberal arts education.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in economics, with a focus on microeconomic theory and political economy
