Description:
The Scott and Marjorie Cowen Chair in Latin American Social Sciences based in the Political Science Department, Tulane University
The Political Science Department at Tulane University invites applications for the Scott and Marjorie Cowen Chair in Latin American Social Sciences. We seek an accomplished full professor with an international reputation who has helped to shape the contemporary understanding of Latin American politics through research that has been published in university press books and peer-reviewed journals. The candidate’s work should be empirically grounded, sensitive to context, and primarily focused on Latin America. It should contribute to new forms of description, concept formation, causal inference, and theoretical innovations on socially relevant phenomena in the region. Methods of research and analysis should be a function of the problem to be studied rather than the reverse. Preferred areas of specialization include state-society relations, political regimes, state building, state erosion, and citizen rights; institutional analysis, change, and development, including questions of political representation and the politics of social and economic development and economic inequality; and policy making, including both general policy-making processes and particular policy areas crucial to economic development and sustainability, such as environmental, economic, and social policy.
Applications received by November 1, 2018 are guaranteed full consideration; however, the position will remain open until filled. The appointment will begin July 2019.
Application Instructions:
Applicants should submit a letter of interest, describing research and teaching strengths, current Curriculum Vitae and three letters of recommendation. Queries may be addressed to Professor Eduardo Silva, Friezo Family Foundation Chair in Political Science (gesilva@tulane.edu) or to Professor Nancy Maveety (nance@tulane.edu), Political Science Department Chair
