Description:

In a clinical setting, The HF Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with the physician(s) and other staff to establish long term follow up treatment plans. In addition, the nurse practitioner will be responsible for overseeing the training and clinical duties of residents, medical students and clinical trial coordinators in the day to day functions within the clinic. The Nurse Practitioner will demonstrate the provision of primary care to patients, and instructs all medical residents, students and trial coordinators how to assist the physicians in the clinic following established standards and practices. The HFNP will possesses advanced knowledge and skill in the area of cardiac nursing. Makes decisions of moderate difficulty. Handles confidential information regarding patient records. Operates and analyzes telemetry cardiac monitors, exercise equipment and patient evaluation tools. May be required to make critical decisions concerning the initiative of emergency medical procedures.


Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Master’s degree
  2. Completion of an ANA-approved Nurse Practitioner program with either an AANC or AANP certification
  3. Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing by the date of hire
  4. One year of experience in a clinical outpatient setting

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

  1. Demonstrated skills in providing exemplary patient care and customer service including maintaining confidentiality and being reliably available to patients when they seek care or advice.
  2. Demonstrative ability to use eletronic health records and computerized medical programs.
  3. Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  4. Ability to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  5. Ability to maintain professional affiliations, licenses, certifications, etc.
  6. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice and medical care to give and evaluate patient care.
  7. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
  8. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  9. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  10. Ability to communicate clearly.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 1 year Heart Failure experience
