Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama is looking to fulfill tenure/tenure track professor position starting August 16, 2019 in the area of autism.

The Psychology Department at the University of Alabama announces an opening for a tenured faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level with expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorders. The preferred start date is August 16, 2019. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary cluster hire in collaboration with the Departments of Communicative Disorders and Special Education & Multiple Abilities. The goal is to identify renowned autism researchers in each of the three disciplines who would be expected to synergize their work to build a strong collaborative autism research program, engage the community, and build a strong basis of extramural funding. This cluster hire is part of the University of Alabama’s initiative to raise its level of research productivity. Hires will be expected to contribute to the newly established Alabama Life Research Institute. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in clinical or non-clinical psychology or a related field with research, teaching and service productivity commensurate with a tenured faculty position. We seek a top scholar who heads a thriving collaborative research program and has a strong history of external funding. The ideal candidate will have an interest in mentoring students as well as junior faculty. The University of Alabama, founded in 1831, is the flagship campus of a three-campus system. The University is located in Tuscaloosa, a city of approximately 100,000 that was named an All-America City by the National Civic League. The Department has 31 faculty and 100 graduate students distributed in four clinical (Law, Health, Gerontology, and Child) and three experimental (Cognitive, Developmental, and Social) concentrations and offers a bachelor’s degree as well as doctoral degrees in both clinical and experimental psychology. The Psychology Department houses the UA Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic and Psychology Clinic, which provide research, diagnostic and therapeutic services. It also houses the UA Autism College Transition Program, which supports UA college students who have autism. Additionally, the Center for the Prevention of Youth Behavior Problems provides support and an interdisciplinary community for researchers.
