The Department of Health Science, College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama is seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor position in health education and promotion. Ideal candidates should have a promising or existing record of research and teaching that will contribute to the college’s growing expertise in addiction science. The department offers degrees in the following programs: BS in Public Health, BSAT in Athletic Training, MA in Health Studies, MPH, and a PhD in Health Education and Health Promotion. A MSAT in Athletic Training is in the planning stages.

The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, conducting, and publishing research; procuring external funding; teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; mentoring students; participating on dissertation committees; and campus, community, and professional service.

Qualified candidates for this position are expected to have a doctoral degree in public health, health education, health promotion, or related field; demonstrated ability to maintain a research agenda focused on addictions or substance abuse that will result in external funding and peer-reviewed publications; and clear potential for excellence in teaching. While not required, an MPH and academic or professional experience in public health, and CHES/MCHES status or eligibility are preferred.

Additional Position Information:

The salary is open and competitive. The department encourages applications from candidates who will enhance its academic, professional, ethnic, or racial diversity. This is a new faculty position that will add to our current roster of outstanding teachers and productive researchers. The starting date for this position will be August, 2019.
