Position: Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology – Educational Neuroscience (Tenure Track)

The Educational Psychology Program at the University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to expand its Educational Neuroscience PhD Concentration. We seek a junior scientist with an interdisciplinary background whose research focuses on understanding neural mechanisms of learning and cognition, and educational implications of neuroscience research in one or more relevant domains (e.g., math learning & numerical cognition, science education, reading & literacy, motivation & affect, human development, learning technologies, cognitive and behavioral disorders). The ideal candidate can integrate developmental, neural, evolutionary and cognitive approaches to construct multi-level theories of learning and cognition, and can conduct experimental and learning design studies to validate these theories.

The educational neuroscience initiative at the University of Alabama involves an Educational Neuroscience PhD Concentration (http://edneuro.ua.edu), under the Educational Psychology Program. Currently we have several active labs engaged in educational neuroscience research (e.g., numerical cognition, moral decision making, autism, language processing and bilingualism, and counseling practice). These labs bring together researchers from a wide range of disciplines. Our labs are equipped with state of the art traditional and mobile EEG, fNIRS, tDCS, eye-tracking and virtual reality systems. We also have access to a nearby fMRI facility. The University of Alabama has an active community of researchers conducting a wide array of brain, learning and cognition research. The university supports and encourages interdisciplinary research and collaboration both within the campus and across other institutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
•Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., neuroscience, education, psychology, human development, cognitive science, learning sciences, computer science)
•Evidence of expertise in one or more neuroimaging techniques (e.g., EEG/ERP, fMRI, fNIRS, MEG)
•Interest in educational applications broadly defined
•Ability to work with students and faculty in a variety of disciplines
•Strong writing and communication skills
•Commitment to working with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications:
•Demonstrated general knowledge and experience in teaching Educational Neuroscience and Educational Psychology
•Evidence of participation in national professional organizations
