The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Associate position. This position is located at the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) in Miami, Florida, and involves collaboration with scientists at AOML and the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. 

The employee will contribute to applications of HRD’s research-based version of the Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting (HWRF) Model to investigate tornadoes and other hazardous weather associated with landfalling tropical cyclones. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with researchers at the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) and the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, Oklahoma. This position is expected to blend naturally with ongoing efforts within NOAA’s Warn-on-Forecast (WoF) and the VORTEX-Southeast program. The dynamic research and close proximity to an operational working environment at HRD and NSSL will provide a successful candidate with ample opportunities for career advancement. 

Applicants must have: 
• PhD in Atmospheric Science or an equivalent subject having performed research in the area of tropical cyclones. 
• He/she must demonstrate skill in data analysis and must have previous experience with numerical weather prediction models and tropical cyclone data. 
• Experience working with large datasets in Python, NCL, IDL, Matlab, GrADS and/or Fortran is desirable. 
• We encourage motivated individuals with excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• The incumbent must be an easy relationship builder, creative, intelligent, and a flexible, supportive team member. 
• The appointment is for two years with annual renewal based upon performance.
