Position Summary

Michigan State University invites applications from outstanding candidates for an open rank tenure system faculty position focusing on post-secondary Mathematics or Statistics Education. Michigan State University provides an exceptional environment for mathematics educators, with a world-renowned faculty who lead the top-ranked doctoral program in Mathematics Education, highly regarded Departments of Mathematics, Statistics and Probability, and Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering, as well as the Program in Mathematics Education (PRIME), and the CREATE for STEM Institute. Current initiatives in these programs include the Department of Mathematics Center for Instructional Mentoring (https://math.msu.edu/cim/) and curriculum development in quantitative literacy, College Algebra and Calculus. Minimum Requirements

The position requires an earned doctorate in Mathematics Education, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, a research program in Mathematics Education or Statistics Education, and, if the doctorate is not in Mathematics or Statistics, a master’s degree or higher in Mathematics or Statistics.

The successful candidate at the senior level will have an internationally influential and externally supported research program in Mathematics Education or Statistics Education, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and a sustained history of mentoring. At the junior level, evidence of excellence in teaching and a burgeoning research program in Mathematics Education or Statistics Education are required, and some mentorship experience is desired. The successful candidate at either level will be expected to maintain an active research program, to assume leadership roles, and to engage in campus-wide initiatives to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and/or statistics at the undergraduate level.
