The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care. This position is being offered as either a Health Programs (Clinical Track) or Tenure Track faculty position.
The successful candidate will be joining a team of 5 ACVS and 4 ACVIM faculty that are also board certified in, ACVECC (2) and ACVSMR (1) as well as a full complement of boarded specialists in ACVAA, ACVO, ACVIM-cardiology, and ACVIM-neurology. Our excellent facilities include a fully equipped hospital with 24-hour certified technical staff, advanced imaging, the Matilda Wilson Pegasus Critical Care and Isolation Facility and the McPhail Equine Performance Center fully equipped for advanced care of large animal patients.
The hospital caseload is predominantly equine but includes all large animal species. The primary responsibilities of this position are: 1) sharing primary clinical duties for night time and weekend emergencies; 2) development of scholarly activity; 3) strong involvement in resident training; 4) providing didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction to veterinary students; 5) developing strong relationships with referring veterinarians; 6) participating in state and national outreach and continuing education.
The position offers exciting opportunities to work in a collaborative environment to maintain an excellent emergency and critical care service with state of the art facilities and equipment. Facilities include three surgical suites fully equipped with high definition arthroscopy, endoscopy, laparoscopy, ligasure, and a full complement of orthopedic instrumentation (LCP and DCP plates). In addition, state of the art imaging (including CT, MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, ultrasound, digital radiography, and fluoroscopy) is available. The hospital is staffed with licensed veterinary technicians 24 hours a day to assist with emergency admissions and ongoing patient care.Required Degree
Doctorate -Veterinary MedicineMinimum Requirements
Required qualifications include DVM or equivalent degree, eligibility for Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgery or American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and competency in equine and food animal surgery. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with other faculty members, residents and staff.Required Application Materials
