Faculty Position in Computer and Information Science

The Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level beginning in September 2019. The department is particularly interested in candidates with research focus in the area of software engineering. The college of engineering has growing expertise and a strong interdisciplinary emphasis in various aspects of mission-critical software, intelligent software systems, and reliability engineering, including but not limited to requirements analysis, formal methods, distributed computing, data/text mining, machine learning, and system reliability. We expect the successful candidate to establish a strong independent research program while strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers across campus.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is located in the beautiful ocean side community of North Dartmouth, about an hour south of Boston, half-hour east of Providence, and half-hour west of Cape Cod. The College of Engineering is comprised of six departments: Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. We offer 8 undergraduate degree programs with 5 concentrations, 11 graduate programs, and 6 accelerated BS-MS programs that serve more than 1,250 undergraduate and 300 graduate students. Our mission is to prepare graduates to meet 21^st-century technological challenges and improve the well-being of society; create new knowledge in engineering, technology, and computer science; and engage and develop students to become leaders in their fields through service and scholarship.

Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students; enhance curriculum; contribute to university and professional service, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in computer science or a closely related field at the time of appointment, be able to teach courses in computer science, and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly research.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have research experience in a computer science field and teaching experience in higher education. Postdoctoral research in an interdisciplinary setting is highly desirable.
