Job Responsibilities:

The Academic Support Center at The Citadel invites applications for a Chemistry and Physics Tutor. This temporary part-time position works with students in small and sometimes large groups or on a one-on-one basis to help foster their understanding of the material and learning abilities. Responsible for keeping appointments on schedule, stay alert, and minimize distractions from tutoring.

Will share new strategies with other subject-area tutors and administrators. Will help maintain and develop Center services by performing non-tutoring administrative work, included but not limited to, maintaining accurate records of client files and filling out accurate, detailed session notes after each session.


Minimum and Additional Requirements:

For the chemistry tutor the person must have scored an A or B in first and second-year chemistry as well as organic chemistry. For the physics tutor the person must have scored an A or B in first and second-year physics. All tutors must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above.

Must be able to communicate effectively with students by establishing a positive rapport and by keeping a friendly, patient, and interested demeanor. Will be required to attend tutor training and staff meetings as required by Center administration.

Additional Comments:

Military experience is not a requirement of this position, but the successful candidate will develop an understanding of the military character of The Citadel as an integral part of the college's identity.
