Job Description:


The Department of Language, Learning, and Leadership (LLL) in the College of Education offers a variety of programs that produce qualified candidates ready-to-lead in fields of language and learning-- such as TESOL, Literacy, and School Building/School District leadership; we also house core classes for educational psychology. This small yet important department provides rewarding work by helping to meet critical needs in Western New York public school districts and preparing future educational leaders. This Literacy Position specifically governs graduate programs leading to B-6 and 5-12 certification, in addition to a new multi-award five-year program leading to four certifications (Literacy B-6 and 5-12, Childhood 1-6, and Students with Disabilities 1-6) in New York State.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:


  • Teach literacy-focused courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels including possible field-based responsibilities and graduate practicum supervision
  • Serve as the coordinator of all literacy programs and courses
  • Maintain an active scholarly agenda, including regular conference presentations and publications
  • Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;
  • Provide academic advisement to students;
  • Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Earned doctorate in Literacy or a closely related field by September 1, 2019
  • Minimum of 3 years of PK-12 classroom teaching experience with an English language-based curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues for program growth and enhancement
  • Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills
  • Evidence of teaching, scholarship, and service
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission;
  • Experience with instructional technology;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Classroom teaching experience in English Language Arts
  • Classroom teaching experience at the post secondary (higher education) level
  • Experience with literacy assessments and educational data
  • Experience with instructional technologies for PK-12 students
  • Experience with online course design and delivery at the college level
  • Evidence of commitment to understanding the needs of diverse learners and to culturally responsive teaching
  • Familiarity with Common Core State Standards, CAEP, and the International Literacy Association Professional Preparation Standards
  • Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.

This is a full-time, term appointed, tenure track position beginning Fall 2019.
