Job Description:

The State University of New York at Fredonia, Department of English, is searching for an Assistant Professor in multi-genre creative writing who will execute a vision for our creative writing program, defining and shaping the direction of this expanding program. This position entails a 3/3 schedule including existing or new courses in emerging genres, as well as introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate fiction and/or poetry workshops, Creative Non-Fiction, Form and Theory, and Literary Publishing courses. Professional obligation includes departmental service, which encompasses advising students and student organizations, serving on department committees, editing a student literary journal, and organizing a visiting writers series.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:

• Teach a 3/3 schedule including existing or new courses in emerging genres, as well as introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate fiction and/or poetry workshops, Creative Non-Fiction, Form and Theory, and Literary Publishing courses;
• Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;
• Provide academic advisement to students;
• Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
• Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Terminal degree (M.F.A. and/or Doctorate) in creative writing by September 1, 2019;
• Demonstrated excellence in university teaching;
• Demonstrated capacity to teach a variety of core courses in Fredonia's Creative Writing Minor;
• Demonstrated capacity to foster a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
• Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Successful teaching experience and/or capacity to develop courses in high-demand and/or emergent genres and/or media;
• Experience in editing a literary journal;
• Experience in organizing a visiting writers series;
• Experience in curriculum and/or program development;
• Significant publications;
• Experience with instructional technology;
• Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement;
• Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.

This is a full-time, term appointed, tenure track position beginning September 1, 2019.
