Job Description:

Teach hospitality management, restaurant management, beverage management, event management and related courses to a diverse student population.

Maintain professional and ethical academic standards associated with the history and culture of the hotel, restaurant, and culinary arts department.

Support and provide leadership, development, and guidance in the maintenance and growth of hospitality management, beverage management and event management curriculum.

Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.

Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.

Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American. Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Evening and/or Saturday assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;

OR

Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment.

OR

The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Desirable Qualifications:
Two years of student-centered teaching and/or industry training experience with demonstrated ability and evidence of breadth of knowledge to teach topics in hospitality management and leadership, hospitality purchasing, beverage management, menu development, hospitality cost control, catering and event management, restaurant management and hospitality and beverage law.

Four years of managerial experience in hotels, restaurants, or catering/event operations.

Membership and active participation in relevant professional organizations which may include; American Hotel and Lodging Association, California Hotel and Lodging Association, National Restaurant Association, California Restaurant Association, American Culinary Federation and/or Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers.

Evidence of continued professional development through certifications which may include; Sommelier, Cicerone, Certified Food and Beverage Executive, Certified Executive Chef, Certified Hospitality Educator, Certified Meeting Professional.

Experience developing and implementing programs that encourage a broad spectrum of students to pursue hospitality as a transfer major.

Experience developing equity driven curriculum in emerging areas of hospitality, beverage management and event management industry that is inclusive of all students.

Experience with developing and maintaining dual enrollment programs with local feeder high schools.

Experience in assisting students with career advisement and job placement.

Experience building and fostering relationships with hospitality and university partners.

Demonstrated experience with online teaching through Canvas or other online platforms.

Demonstrated ability to develop effective lesson plans and select instructional materials appropriate for instruction.

Working Conditions:


Salary Range: $64,236 - $97,252 Annually

Special Instructions Summary: Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable.
